According to South African coach Micky Arthur, Graeme Smith may not be available for the one day series in Australia which will start on January 16th. The South African captain has been facing a prolonged elbow injury and can be rested in the ODI series. Graeme Smith has been a major contributer in the South African Test win over the OZs. In his absence the team will be headed by, spinner Johan Botha. South Africa has recently registered a two to nil invincible lead in the test series held down under. The South African may also be rested for the third and final test starting Saturday. Graeme Smith who has been facing the injury for a long time now was only half a fit when he played in the first two test matches and was feeling extreme pain in his elbow.
Although South Africa has already won the series, the departure of the left

handed opening batsman may serve as a threat for South Africa' ambitions of becoming the number one test team. South Africa will replace Australia as the top test team if they are able to win the third and final test in Sydney. The break can serve as a perfect opportunity for Smith, to prepare for the upcoming home series against Australia, which will kick start in February.
